Shannon Boyd, who has been part of Girls’ Brigade for 22 years, has written and released a song based on her love for the organisation.
Shannon’s song, Seek, Serve, Follow, is inspired by her passion for Girls’ Brigade and what we stand for. She joined her local group in South Shields at 8, recommended by a family friend and urged by her mother after struggling with shyness, bullying and difficulty making friends. Shannon instantly felt at home at Girls’ Brigade, telling us ‘after the first night I knew Girls’ Brigade was where I belonged, Leaders supported me with my confidence, supported me with school work because I have dyslexia, taught me practical skills, at Girls’ Brigade I could be myself.’
Being a part of Girls’ Brigade helped Shannon, also known as Boydie, to grow into the confident woman she is today, taking part in pantomime and plays, she has outgrown the shyness she experienced as a young girl. She hopes to share the importance of Girls’ Brigade’s impact with her newest song, telling us ‘if I can inspire one girl to Seek, Serve and Follow Christ then I’ve done a good job, I was inspired to write this song because I wanted to express the love I have for God and Girls’ Brigade.’
During her time at Girls’ Brigade, Shannon has progressed from member, to Leader, District Deputy Team Leader, and finally is part of the Network Executive Team. She talks about how her favourite part about volunteering is ‘seeing young girls blossom into young ladies, seeing their faith develop, but I guess my favourite thing is to say I’ve been a part of their journey to finding not only themselves but God.’

is a beautiful example of how much Girls’ Brigade and faith based community can bring about inspiration, positivity and friendship.
