Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Girls’ Brigade England & Wales is a Licensed Organisation (LO) for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme (DofE).

If you’re aged between 13 (Year 9+) and 24, you can achieve your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through a Girls’ Brigade community group.

Attain your Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by completing a personal programme of activities in 4 sections.

  1. Volunteering (helping others).
  2. Physical (having fun and getting fit through physical activity).
  3. Skills (gaining new skills).
  4. Expedition (exploring the countryside).

At the Gold level, participants are required to do an additional section – Residential (away from home).

Enjoy new experiences, make new friends and acquire new talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

We run the DofE Award because it’s a very popular nationally recognised award. Our girls have developed many skills through completing DofE, including their self-confidence, teamwork, perseverance in hard situations and their ability at problem-solving. Our DofE girls also show greater commitment to supporting each other at GB. These are life skills which will benefit them as they move into adult life, says Rachel Cox, Team Leader at 4th Sutton Coldfield GB.
