Meet Rebecca, 25, from 1st Kexborough

story

Youth Work Week is a celebration, organised by the National Youth Agency, to celebrate everything youth work! This year, between 1 and 7 November, the event is themed Champions of Youth Work.

We know all our amazing volunteers are champions who carry out great youth work every week and we’d love to feature all of them. But, for now, here’s one GB leader’s story…

#YouthWorkWeek #YWW21

Rebecca Bennett‘Hi, I’m Rebecca, aged 25, and a GB leader at 1st Kexborough. I’ve been a leader here for nearly 5 years.

‘I love being a leader as I love to see the girls happy and excited over the simplest of things. I think it’s important to be a leader because someone gave up their time when I was younger to enable me to have great GB experiences and meet lifelong friends and so I want to give back to the young people of today by doing the same!

‘I’m also a leader of a youth theatre group in the same area, again I’ve grown up through these groups and just want the same opportunity for others. To anyone thinking of becoming a youth leader but who isn’t sure if you can do it… you can – every one of us has different skills to bring to the table to encourage and nurture the youth of today.’
