On Tuesday 20 May, 12 Girls' Brigade representatives had the amazing opportunity of attending the King's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Royal Family!
These representatives came from 1st Windy Nook, 2nd Billericay, 1st Belfairs, 1st Chapel-en-le-Frith, 21st Castleford, 55th Birmingham, 1st Rugby, 1st Cottingham and 3rd Reading. On the day, the stewards were tasked with welcoming the 8000 guests to Buckingham Palace, helping with queries about where to go and timings, taking photographs for guests, welcoming special guests to the Royal tea tent, making a clear path for the Royal Party as they were introduced to specific people to make sure they weren't crowded, and saying goodbye to the guests at the end of the day.
Hannah Morpeth, 1st Windy Nook, tells us "Being a steward at the King's Garden Party was a brilliant day, it was a delight seeing so many people who've done great things in their communities have such a special day. I loved getting to speak with different people about what brought them to the palace on the day and meeting some of the Royal Family was a fantastic end to our day."
Meeting members of the Royal Family was a stand out moment for several of the attendees, one tells us it was "an amazing once in a lifetime experience, which I will treasure forever. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was an honour to meet and speak to the Royal Family." Another attendee tells us "my favourite thing about going to the palace was shaking hands and talking to Prince William."
Jayne Jones, Project and Events Administrator at Girls' Brigade tells us "it was such a privilege to be inside the grounds of Buckingham Palace and to be part of the team welcoming guests and helping to ensure they had a special day. I don't think I expected to be in such close proximity to the Royal Family and they were just as friendly and charming as you might have hoped." The Royal Family took the time to speak to our representatives and thanked them for their help.
Well done and thank you to all attendees who represented Girls' Brigade with pride, we are so glad to hear that the day was a success and memories that will last a lifetime have been made!
