Girls’ Brigade Leader attends New Years Day Parade

news

Chloé, YOU London Trustee and Leader at her local Girls' Brigade group, was lucky enough to be a part of the New Years Day Parade in London!

For the last 40 years, the London Parade (also known as the New Years Day Parade) has taken place to mark the beginning of the New Year, attracting 8000 performers from around the world, and 500,000 spectators.

Chloe's day began with the Mayors and Dignitaries Reception at The Mayfair Hotel, where she met Colonel Jane Davis, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London. Additionally, she met representatives of partner organisations of YOU London. Chloe made the most of this opportunity to get to know more about various uniformed youth groups.

In the carriage, Chloe and the YOU London group took a 2.2 mile journey from Piccadilly to Westminster, listening to one of the marching bands as they went. Scouts representative Steve French and PO Jaimey Gunton from Sea Cadets were also in the carriage as invited guests. The streets were lined with thousands of people waving and shouting 'Happy New Year'! Chloe states 'I was proud to hear Girls’ Brigade mentioned as we approached each grandstand on the route and to represent GB on an international platform as the parade was streamed around the world!'

To finish the day, Chloe watched the parade in full view from the grandstand, including headline acts Heather Small and Sam Ryder.

Chloe writes 'I am truly grateful to Col Jane Davis for this invitation and YOU London for this opportunity - it is certainly a way of bringing in the New Year that I'll never forget.'
