Girls’ Brigade CEO joins Salisbury Cathedral’s College of Canons

During the Evensong service on Monday 2 June, The Girls’ Brigade England and Wales Chief Executive Officer, Judith Davey-Cole was installed into the College of Canons at Salisbury Cathedral, by invitation of the Right Reverend Stephen Lake, Bishop of Salisbury. Judith was joined by three other lay canons, Tom Holland, Nigel Salisbury, and Lucinda Herklots. The College of Canons is part of the Cathedral’s extended family and meets twice a year to provide feedback on policy decisions made by Chapter, the Cathedral’s governing body, and on Cathedral activities. Alongside her role within The Girls’ Brigade, Judith’s non-executive roles include being Chair of the Methodist Safeguarding Committee and Vice Chair of Thirtyone:eight, the Christian safeguarding agency. She is also a member of the Diocese of Winchester’s Safeguarding Advisory Panel. Judith has held senior leadership roles at organisations including ActionAid and Deloitte and is a member of Chapter at Salisbury Cathedral. Judith takes up her place in the Hurstborne & Burbage stall in her role as lay canon. The Bishop of Salisbury, the Right Revd Stephen Lake, said: “I am delighted that Tom, Nigel, Judith and Lucinda have accepted the invitation to join the Cathedral’s College of Canons. With Tom as our first Canon Historian and Nigel, Judith and Lucinda bringing their perspectives and experience as Chapter members their installation will ensure that a range of voices from across the diocese are represented” Judith joined The Girls’ Brigade England and Wales as Chief Executive Officer in December 2023 and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as an experienced CEO. She’s passionate about empowering girls and women and is making great strides in building confidence, empowering, equipping, and enabling girls and young women across England and Wales. The Girls’ Brigade England and Wales is part of a global fellowship operating in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Australia, The Girls’ Brigade England & Wales (GB) is over 130 years old and is just as relevant now as it was all those years ago. It is one of the few remaining Christian uniformed youth organisations. We predominantly work with girls and young women between the ages of 4-18. We develop life skills and build their confidence - enabling and empowering them to “live life to the full”. We also have thousands of incredibly loyal and committed volunteers who make a tremendous contribution to the young people they meet, to their communities, and to society. The Girls’ Brigade is keen to share its work with more girls and young women across the country and continues to grow. Our newest group opening this month (June 2025) at Christ Church, Sidcup.
