GB group runs food parcel service

news

More than 40 food parcels have been delivered in less than 2 weeks to people stuck at home during the Coronavirus pandemic, thanks to members and leaders of 1st Haydock GB community group.

One of the group leader’s daughters said she wanted to do something to help people and the leaders came up with the idea for a weekly food parcel service, started on 8 April, and delivered to people who are referred from the community.

Team Leader Becky Taylor says ‘We’ve asked for donations from the families that come to GB and the leaders have donated too, but it has expanded to the public also donating, with the leaders using their homes as drop-off points, and the local Home Bargains shop staff are also collecting weekly for us.

‘It’s been quite overwhelming the generosity and love that is out there at the minute but also the need for something like this. All of this is being done with safety as a priority with donations being cleaned before being packaged up and social distancing being adhered to.’

If you’re a GB community group leader and your group is involved with helping others during this time, we’d love to hear about it and share with the wider GB family. Email the details to us.
