Duke of Edinburgh participants invited to Buckingham Palace

news

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, a number of Girls’ Brigade members who have completed their gold Duke of Edinburgh award were invited to Buckingham Palace last month to receive their awards.

One of the invited members was Rachael from 1st Denton. Here’s what she had to say about her trip to the Palace.

‘On Monday 16th May myself, my Mum and fellow GB leader Lynne travelled down to London to celebrate achieving my DofE at Buckingham Palace. It truly was a day I’ll never forget.

‘The gardens are stunning, I struggle to keep a single potted plant alive so I can’t imagine trying to maintain that! The day was full of lovely walks, delicious cakes, a visit from the Earl of Wessex, the best brass band, and of course, plenty of laughs and amazing memories. Not many people can say they’ve played giant Jenga on the lawns of Buckingham Palace after all! I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities GB has presented me with’
