Changing lives in 2024 – meet volunteer Jo

story

Meet Jo Thoy, 67, Team Leader of 1st Durham and a Vice President of Girls’ Brigade England & Wales.

What’s best about volunteering for a national organisation like GB? I like the structures that are in place – we’re running GB at a local level, but we have the back-up and support from a national team in terms of training and resources etc. You don’t get that at a church youth club. I appreciate how GB invests in its volunteers.

How has GB helped you and what would you say to someone considering volunteering? I’ve grown as a person and developed as a person and learned so much about myself as an individual – it’s important to find out what your gifting is. Do that, not just whatever opportunity is in front of you. Show care and love in the way that is your strength.
