A Day of Learning, Creativity & Connection in Northumberland & Durham

news

The day was led by Katie Hurst (District Team Leader) and Hannah Morpeth (Team Leader), with fantastic support from Sam Cree (Leader at 1st Ryton) who brought her creativity and led some prayer spaces for leaders.

The training and retreat day aimed to create a space where leaders could come together, recharge, and learn how to make Girls’ Brigade even more inclusive—especially for neurodivergent young people and those who’ve faced tough life experiences.

Throughout the day, leaders explored:

  • What neurodivergence means and how we can make GB more accessible
  • Child development and attachment: understanding how children grow and connect
  • The impact of adverse childhood experiences
  • Practical changes we can make as adults to better support the girls in our care

During a craft activity themed around diversity, leaders expressed what inclusion means to them.

Well done to the leaders for a positive and uplifting day, full of learning, reflection, and connection. We’re proud to see our leaders work so hard to continue making GB a safe, welcoming, and empowering space for every girl.
