8th Portsmouth’s Summer of Fun

news

The members and leaders of 8th Portsmouth have enjoyed an action-packed programme of activities in the half-term leading up to the summer holidays.

This has included a Paddington party with games and bear-themed crafts, trips to the local park with one trip featuring a water fight, and felt bee making.

Plus, on 2 July, around 20 members, plus leaders, enjoyed a fun night out at Hollywood Bowl and the following week around 50 members and their families attended an 'indoor' BBQ. The BBQ night also featured a famous faces quiz, a craft activity and a giant game of pass the parcel.

On 12 July more than 30 8th Portsmouth Girls' Brigade and 4th Portsmouth Boys' Brigade members and leaders enjoyed a fun day out. Their activities kicked off with a trip to Blue Reef Aquarium in Southsea, followed by games on Southsea Common. The group then moved on to the Splash Park at Canoe Lake, where they loved cooling off running under the water jets, before eating a chippy tea. The under 8s and those not staying over then went home and 10 members plus leaders took part in games and a sleepover at Portsmouth Methodist Church. It was a great day despite the heat!

8th Portsmouth girls at their awards nightFinally, the group finished for the summer holidays with their annual awards night.

Team Leader Catherine Burt says ‘It was wonderful to celebrate the achievements of our girls and young women and to celebrate with their families. You can’t beat the feeling you get when you see their smiles as they’re presented with their awards. It’s been a busy half-term and we’re looking forward to more fun when we return in September.’
