Nights Away badge guidance

The Girls’ Brigade England and Wales are working in partnership with PGL to help even more young people to have adventures, try new things and develop life skills. Our partnership provides Girls’ Brigade groups with exclusive access to discounted rates at PGL’s 16 adventure centres across the UK plus two French adventures - Disneyland Paris and Watersports in the Ardèche. On a PGL residential, everything’s included meaning leaders can enjoy stress-free adventures with their groups which include accommodation, equipment, meals, a huge range of outdoor adventure activities, a dedicated group leader for your stay and options for all budgets. One leader goes free for every 8 girls booked too!

We’re excited to share three new badges for Girls’ Brigade members that they can earn for attending GB residentials and sleepovers, including residentials at PGL centres.

These badges are for recognising GB members who attend residential events and/or sleepovers and can be awarded as soon as they’ve completed their first night away. There are three badges to earn – bronze, silver and gold.

Purchase yours from GB Trading.

As part of the partnership, PGL are sponsoring Girls’ Brigade’s new Nights Away badge. We know how important having fun, developing potential, and celebrating achievements are to the Girls’ Brigade programme and this sponsorship will give the opportunity for even more members to experience this through outdoor adventures on a PGL group adventure camp, by recognising and encouraging overnight experiences.

FAQs

Who can achieve the award?
The badges operate across all age groups. Members under 8 (who are not permitted to take part in residentials) can begin earning their badges by attending sleepovers.

When can members achieve their bronze, silver and gold awards?
Bronze awards can be awarded as soon as members have spent one night away from home. Silver should be awarded after 10 nights away, and gold after 20 nights away.

Can the requirements for achieving the awards be adapted if we feel they’re unachievable for our members?
These are recommended guidelines and we understand that there may be circumstances where the parameters of the awards need to adapted based on the needs of the young people or group.

Am I able to backdate these awards for my current members?
Leaders are welcome to count up nights already spent away before giving out these awards.

PGL are passionate about enriching young people’s lives and through sponsoring the new Nights Away badge, hope that more Girls’ Brigade groups will experience an overnight adventure where young people can push their limits, discover skills they didn’t know they had and try something new in inspiring surroundings. Get ready for your members to step outside of their comfort zone, conquer fears as a team and build confidence on a PGL Group Adventure Camp.
